HiFi Select helps hi-fi enthusiasts understand how their equipment connects, why particular cables are required, and which connection options may be suitable for their system.
We believe technical information should be clear, transparent and easy to understand. This page explains how our information is prepared, the limits of that information, how the website may use data, and what users should consider before acting on a connection recommendation.
Disclaimer & accuracy
Our commitment to accuracy
Every connection plan published by HiFi Select is created using information believed to be accurate at the time of publication.
Wherever possible, our information is based on official manufacturer user manuals, product specifications, technical documentation, official product images and established connector standards.
Our aim is to provide clear, accurate and practical guidance that helps users understand how their hi-fi equipment can be connected. What we work from:

- manufacturer product specifications
- technical documentation
- official product photographs
- established connector standards
- independent verification where appropriate
Why equipment may differ
Although we make every reasonable effort to maintain accurate information, HiFi Select cannot guarantee that every physical product will exactly match the information held in our database.
Differences may occur because of manufacturer revisions, regional variants, limited editions, hardware updates, repairs, aftermarket modifications, production changes or errors within the original manufacturer documentation. In practice that means:
- manufacturer revisions
- regional product variations
- limited-edition models
- hardware or firmware changes
- products modified or repaired after manufacture
- user-installed upgrades
- aftermarket modifications
- incorrect or incomplete manufacturer information
- products incorrectly identified by a user
We cannot physically inspect the equipment owned by each visitor. When you choose a model on this website we have no way of confirming that it is the exact version, revision or regional variant sitting on your rack. Only you can do that, and the back panel in front of you is the final word.
Before connecting equipment
Before connecting, disconnecting or powering on equipment, users should confirm that the connections shown by HiFi Select match the labels and sockets on their own equipment.
Where information differs, the official user manual, the labels on the physical product and current guidance from the manufacturer should take precedence over information shown by HiFi Select.
- confirm the exact manufacturer and model number
- check for version, generation or regional differences
- examine the labels beside the physical connections
- refer to the official user manual
- switch equipment off before connecting or disconnecting cables where appropriate
- contact the manufacturer or an appropriately qualified professional when uncertain
Limitation of liability
HiFi Select is provided as an informational and educational service.
While reasonable efforts are made to maintain accurate and useful information, no connection plan, compatibility result or product recommendation should be treated as a substitute for the official instructions supplied with the user’s equipment.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, HiFi Select does not accept liability for loss, damage, equipment malfunction, data loss, personal injury or other consequences arising from reliance on information published on the website.
Users remain responsible for confirming compatibility and following the instructions and safety guidance supplied by the relevant manufacturer. Nothing on this page limits any right you have under UK law that cannot lawfully be limited.
Report an error
Accuracy is one of our highest priorities. If you believe that a product specification, connector, cable recommendation or connection plan is incorrect, please let us know.
Every useful report helps us improve the HiFi Select database for everyone.
- Manufacturer and model. The complete manufacturer and model name shown on the product.
- Version or revision. The generation, regional version, production revision or model year, where known.
- Description of the issue. What HiFi Select currently shows and what appears to be incorrect.
- Supporting photograph. A clear photograph of the rear panel, connector labels or relevant part of the product, where possible.
- Supporting documentation. A link to the official manufacturer page, user manual or technical document, where available.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on HiFi Select may be affiliate links. If a user purchases a product after following one of these links, HiFi Select may receive a commission.
This does not normally increase the price paid by the user. Affiliate income may help fund the hosting, maintenance, research and continued development of HiFi Select.
Product suitability, compatibility and connection guidance is determined by the needs of the system rather than the availability of an affiliate relationship. Where a link is an affiliate link it will be marked as such; ordinary links to manuals, manufacturers and reference material are not affiliate links. At the time of the update shown above, no affiliate links are live on the site.
Independence and transparency
HiFi Select is not sponsored by, endorsed by or officially affiliated with the manufacturers listed on the website unless explicitly stated.
Manufacturer names, product names and trademarks are used for identification, compatibility and informational purposes. Our connection information is compiled from documentation rather than from testing every product ourselves.
Privacy
Information currently collected
You can search the database, build a system and read a full connection plan without giving us anything at all. There are no accounts, no sign-in and no saved profiles on the website today. Information reaches us in only three ways.
When you ask us to email you a plan. The “email me this plan” form on the planner collects the email address you type in, the tick confirming you want the email, a link back to the plan you built, and a summary of that plan: the components you chose and the cables we recommended for them. It is used to send you the plan and, because the same box asks, occasional notes when we add new models or publish a new guide. Consent is the lawful basis: you chose it, and every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link.
When you write to us. The contact form collects your email address, your message, the subject you chose and, if you are reporting an error, the manufacturer, model, version and documentation link you supply. Your name is optional. We use it to answer you and, for error reports, to correct the database.
Ordinary web-server records. The site is hosted on Vercel, whose servers log requests in the normal way, including IP addresses. We also hold your IP address in memory for about a minute when you submit a form, purely to stop somebody firing the same form hundreds of times. It is not written to a database and it is not linked to your plan.
Everything above is submitted by you deliberately, apart from the server records, which are a by-product of the site being on the internet at all. Two processors handle it on our behalf: Vercel, which hosts the site, and Klaviyo, which stores the email address and message and delivers our mail. We do not pass it to cable makers, retailers or anybody else.
HiFi Select does not sell users’ personal information.
Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for a copy, or withdraw your consent at any time. Write to contact@hifiselect.co.uk, or use the contact page and choose “Privacy question”. Both reach the same place. We are a small operation and do not publish a postal address. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Cookies and analytics
HiFi Select sets no cookies of its own. Nothing is written to your browser’s local or session storage, so the system you build lives only in the page you are looking at and disappears when you close the tab. That is also why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing non-essential to ask you about.
We do measure how the site is used, with Vercel Web Analytics. It counts page views and which pages and features people actually reach, so we know where to spend our time. It is cookieless and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other websites.
No advertising network, no social-media pixel, no session recording and no third-party embeds run on this site. If that changes, this page changes with it.
Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, original HiFi Select text, graphics, diagrams, connection plans, interface designs and illustrations are owned by HiFi Select and may not be reproduced commercially without permission.
Manufacturer names, product names, logos and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners. The same applies to manufacturer manuals, photographs and published specifications, which we consult but do not own.
They are used on HiFi Select for identification, compatibility, commentary and informational purposes. Their appearance does not imply sponsorship, endorsement or official affiliation.

These websites are operated independently. HiFi Select is not responsible for their availability, security, content, pricing, stock information or privacy practices.
